Ted Kennedy, for days on end you held poster-sized pictures from Abu Ghraib in front of any available television camera. Al Jazeera quoted you saying that Iraqi's torture chambers were open under new management. Did you see the news, Teddy? The Islamic Nazis demonstrated another beheading for you. If you truly supported our troops, you'd show the world poster-sized pictures of that atrocity and demand the annihilation of it. Your legislation stripping support from the South Vietnamese led to a communist victory there.

The Rest of the Story on "Global Warming"

Warning: you have to think a minute when you read these numbers.

 

The total surface of the earth is 197,000,000 square miles.

 

The earth is 70% ocean covering 140,000,000 square miles.

 

The earth's land mass covers 57,000,000 square miles.

 

Cities, factories, airports, etc cover about 750,000 square miles, 4 tenths of 1 percent of the earth's surface

 

The world's population is estimated to be 6.8 billion.

 

The state of Texas covers 268,581 square miles. A square mile contains 27,878,400 square feet so Texas covers 7,487,608,550,499 square feet.

 

If you divide the square footage of Texas by the world population you find that every single person in the world can stand on their own 1,101 square foot piece of land in Texas.

 

Mankind occupies less than 4 tenths of 1 percent of the surface of the earth.

 

Considering that the earth's atmosphere extends 50 miles up from the surface, how can anyone with half a brain think that humans can do anything to change the atmosphere much less the earth's climate?

Understanding the ocean's effect on climate took a quantum leap forward in 2003 when the first of 3,000 new automated ocean buoys were deployed, a significant improvement over earlier buoys that took their measurements mostly at the ocean's surface.

The new buoys, known as Argos, drift along the world's oceans at a depth of about 6,000 feet constantly monitoring the temperature, salinity, and speed of ocean currents. Every 10 days or so a bladder inflates, bringing them to the surface as they take their readings at various depths.

Once on the surface, they transmit their readings to satellites that retransmit them to land-based computers. Thousands of other surface floating buoys also send information.

The Argos buoys have disappointed global warming alarmists in that they have failed to detect any signs of imminent climate change. As Dr. Josh Willis noted in an interview with National Public Radio, "there has been a very slight cooling" over the buoy's five years of observation.

Actual observations trump computer models and as we learn more about the Earth we start to realize how puny and irrelevant man's contribution to climate change really is.

While irresponsible environmentalists panic over warming, the Earth cools and goes with the ocean flow.

Non sEssential Employees???

Well the word has come out that we are going to offer buy out packages to 2,011 "non essential employees" of the state. The package is most likely going to include one years pay and free college education for new hires and one year pay for retirees. Those who were going to retire are now holding out for the extra payday. Most of the expense would come from reserves held in the department (Another area that needs to be looked at are these reserves that are held by departments year after year and are not counted as part of the budget or their budget. It is like a inter government slush fund).

The things that kills me are; if they are "non essential employees" then why did we hire them in the first place? How many more of these "Non essential employees" are we currently paying?, how long have we been paying them? and why don't we stop paying them? It they are "non essential" I think that about says it all.

It looks like someone has been using the government as a jobs program.

The kicker is they are getting working businesses and working people to pay for it through taxes. Thus limiting the business growth/employment capabilities. It turns into a vicious cycle. More government jobs kill off private business jobs witch makes some want to give more government jobs with a tax increase to pay for it.

Now as election year starts to loom closer and closer the governors "Technical corrections tax increase" is starting to face some headwind. Thank god for political opponents. Most people on my side of the isle say the only reason Gary Odum is suddenly against the 27 million dollar tax increase bill he has been carrying all year is because he got a political opponent.

Gary was just rated as the least business friendly legislator in the state by a Tennessee business magazine.

Ouch. The lead on a big tax increase and least friendly to business? That would be 2 good political bullets.

Suddenly, he is mister no more tax increases. Good to see the change of heart here at 11:59.

If the technical corrections tax increase bill fails that could be another 27 mill out of the budget. Who knows, maybe we could get rid of some more "Non essential employees" with some non budget money.

Democratic presidential nominee, Illinois governor Adlai Stevenson, received only 78,000 votes.

Choose the bird feeder or the poop

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed.

What a beauty of a bird feeder it is, as I filled it lovingly with seed.

Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow

of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio,

above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table, everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me

even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud.

They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night

and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the

bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone.

I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be.... quiet, serene and no one demanding their

rights to a free meal.

Now let's see. Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care,

and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands.

Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families;

you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child's 2nd grade class

is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to 'press one' to hear my bank talk to me

in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are squawking and screaming in

the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

My dearest Democrats,

Words cannot express the deep affection I feel for all of you at this moment.

Just a few short months ago, I was forlorn and close to despair. As a conservative, I viewed voting for John McCain in November like getting an annual prostate exam - distasteful but necessary.

In my wildest dreams, I could not have imagined that the Democratic Party would nominate a presidential candidate who has expressed a willingness to sit down and talk with Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - the maniac who has said he wants to wipe Israel off the map of the Middle East. If Obama becomes president, maybe they'll agree to compromise and just wipe out half of Israel when they meet.

Does Barack Hussein Obama have more common ground with the Iranian President than we have been led to believe? I don't know. However, Ahmed Yousuf, the top political advisor for Hamas, had this to say about Obama, "We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the elections."

When asked about Obama's rejection of the Hamas endorsement, Ahmed Yousuf answered, "I understand American politics and this is the season for elections and everybody tries to sound like he's a friend of the Israelis."

Barack Hussein Obama will be worse for Israel than Jimmy Carter on steroids, and everyone knows it.

I did not think Democrats could possibly nominate someone more pro-abortion than Hillary Clinton, but amazingly, you're going to do so. In the Pennsylvania primary, Barack Obama lost the Catholic vote to Clinton by a margin of 71 to 29. Barack Obama has been a strong supporter of partial birth abortion - a procedure so gruesome that even Jeffrey Dahmer would have recoiled in horror. Sixty-five million American Catholics will let you know what we think of that this November.

Obama's spiritual mentor and advisor, Reverend Wright, is a nutty racist who thinks Louis Farrakhan is a great man. The best thing about Rev. Wright is that he keeps on talking. Rev. Wright is the gift that keeps on giving.

I have not even touched on "Bittergate", the newly proud Mrs. Obama, slumlord Tony Rezko, or domestic terrorists Bernadette Dohrn and William Ayers. Almost every day a new terrorist, Marxist or racist is connected to Obama and his campaign. I just can't fit all of Obama's baggage into one column. Hillary has consistently won the senior vote in the primaries, and in a recent Zogby poll, McCain leads Obama among seniors by 51% to 35%. It seems that seniors value experience much more than they do some hokey concept of "change." Obama will also have trouble getting the votes of white males, Hispanics, women and veterans.

Obama supporters consist of liberals, the entire mainstream media, the youth vote, and black Americans. George McGovern and Walter Mondale won their party's nomination with similar coalitions.What they couldn't do, and what Obama won't be able to do, is win a general election.

I had thought the bumper sticker phrase, "Liberals are so open minded their brains have fallen out" was just that - a bumper sticker slogan. I did not realize that this phrase contained an ultimate truth.

Observant readers may have noticed I used your likely nominee's full legal name: "Barack Hussein Obama" - even though John McCain doesn't want us to. Surely, you must know that we conservatives haven't cared about what John McCain has to say about election communications ever since he rammed the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform down our throats.

You have re-set a place for us at our party's table. Hillary has proven that Obama can't take a punch. Obama has a glass jaw and conservatives are going to hit that jaw like the fist of an angry god.

John McCain will criticize us in public but smile inwardly as the Obama campaign continues to collapse like a straw hut during a Category 5 hurricane.

John McCain is not a conservative. McCain is, at his best, a moderate Republican, and generally speaking, conservatives dislike moderate Republicans almost as much as they dislike liberals. But you haven't given us just a liberal in Obama; you've given us a hard core Marxist who can barely disguise his contempt for the American people. You have given us someone we must oppose.

To show such compassion and generosity of spirit to conservatives is unprecedented. My friends and I are humbled to have such riches so unselfishly bestowed upon us.

On this day in 1963...

 

On this day in 1963, police in Birmingham, Alabama -- under the command of the Democrat sheriff, Eugene "Bull" Connor -- attacked several thousand African-American schoolchildren who were demonstrating peacefully for their civil rights. At the time, it should be noted, Connor was the Democratic National Committeeman for Alabama. Connor's men used high-pressure hoses, clubs and dogs in their assault, and then jailed nearly a thousand children.

A member of the Ku Klux Klan, Connor had been a Democrat state legislator and a delegate to the 1948 Democratic National Convention. A year after attacking the African-American children, Connor was elected, as a Democrat, president of the state Public Service Commission.
